Fact Checked

Every now and then, most of us end up with acne but quite common during the adolescent period. It is important to note that acne is a common skin disease managed by doctors. Acne is a chronic condition that affects many adolescents and even young adults. In a study conducted, many teenagers who have acne wanted to consult a doctor but only a few actually did. Some might simply ignore the skin issue that affects the epidermis until it vanishes while others seek treatment since it can be aesthetically unappealing.

What are the types of acne?

Remember that not all acne is the same. In simple terms, acne can be categorized into red-colored bumps and blackheads/whiteheads. Take note that this grouping is essential since each type is treated in a different way.

Whiteheads and blackheads or comedones are more numerous on the face and shoulders than the red-colored bumps that are filled with pus. Proper and regular skin hygiene can deal with this skin condition. Understandably, being familiar with the causes of comedones and proper management is a step so that the individual can achieve clear skin.

Blackheads

Blackheads or open comedones are follicles have a wider opening than usual. They are usually packed with lumps of sebum and dead skin cells as well as undergoing a chemical reaction that results to the oxidation of melanin. This provides the material within the follicle that appears black in color.

Whiteheads

Whiteheads are called as closed comedones in which the follicles are filled with the same material but only have a microscopic opening to the skin surface. Since the air cannot reach the follicle, the material is not oxidized and stays white in color.

How to care for blackheads and whiteheads

Always bear in mind that the key to skin care for acne is maintaining consistency. Remember that there is no overnight cure even today. By using good skin care methods and healthy practices, it can greatly help in the daily improvement of the overall health of the follicles in the skin.

Do not forget that acne is not triggered by eating certain foods, limiting the diet is not beneficial in any way. In addition, acne is not also triggered by dirty skin since excessive scrubbing of the skin will not help and will only irritate the acne even more.

The ideal skin care for comedones involves daily cleansing using mild soap or a facial scrub to facilitate the removal of excess sebum as well as dead skin cells. Take note that oil-based makeup should not be used since these can contribute to the buildup of oil in the follicles. Water-based makeups that are labelled as non-comedogenic can be used safely.

Always bear in mind that acne can be managed by sticking with a proper skin care routine using the right products. Small-sized acne can simply vanish but for severe cases, it is best to consult a doctor.
