A quadriceps strain can also cause front thigh pain. The formation of tears in the fibers of the quadriceps can trigger pain in the anterior of the thigh.
The injury is common among athletes who engage in jumping, sprinting or kicking activities. The usual indications of linked with a quadriceps strain include front thigh pain and tightness, mild swelling, discomfort in the affected area when walking, muscle spasms close to the site of injury and difficulty straightening the knee.
Contusions can also lead to front thigh pain. The injury is caused by a traumatic event or sustaining repeated blows from a blunt object.
Those who engage in contact sports face a higher risk for contusions. The usual indications linked with a contusion in the quadriceps muscle include skin discoloration, lump at the site of injury, pain or discomfort, soft tissue defect and tenderness.
